What is Rope Access?

At SARA Rope Access Global, we abide by our carefully crafted safety system for the benefit of our valued clients and our employees. Rope Access is regulated by the Institute for Working at Heights (IWH) in South Africa, as well as by the respective national associations in other countries, which set the relevant standards and legislation within their own jurisdictions.

Rope access is a system of interrelated components that combine to allow access to otherwise hard-to-reach areas for industrial, commercial and offshore purposes.

The system we have put in place has allowed us to boast an unparalleled safety record, combined with maximum productivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Benefits of Rope Access?
Benefits of rope access include speed and less interference with day to day client operations. Ropes can be installed quickly and technicians can rapidly gain access to and from their work areas, causing relatively limited interference to workers inside the building or any other external operators.
• Greater flexibility than is possible with moving platforms or traditional access methods.
• Access to otherwise impossible-to-reach areas.
• Less congestion at the foot of buildings, parking areas and access points.
• Optimized security due to the fact that no fixed access structures are left on site.
• Reduced set-up time, thus minimizing man hours and costs and reducing downtime in adverse weather.
• A quieter service with minimal interference.

With SARA Rope Access Global, you gain all these advantages delivered by a trusted partner who ensures safe, efficient, and cost‑effective access solutions tailored to your project’s needs.
Is it Safe?
Safety is our main priority, which is why we focus on training, quality control, site management, testing and inspection of all our gear and processes. All of these facets ensure the risks associated with rope access, including having personnel working at high levels above ground, are dramatically reduced.

Partnering with SARA Rope Access Global means you can rely on uncompromising safety standards that protect both your people and your projects.
What forms part of the Rope Access System?
SARA Rope Access Global has a wide range of comprehensive rope access services, some of the most common systems we implement are:
• Site-specific risk assessments & Fall protection plans
• Permit-to-work integration
• Equipment inspection
• Supervisor sign-off on rigging and daily DSTI checklists
• Toolbox talks & Refusal to work if unsafe policy
Who governs the Rope Access industry?
The Institute for Work at Height (IWH) is the professional body for Rope Access in South Africa, setting standards and overseeing compliance across the industry. Rope Access operations must also adhere to South African National Standards (SANS 50795) and Construction Regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which ensure safe anchor systems and competent supervision on site. In addition, many companies align with international frameworks such as IRATA to meet global best practices. Rope Access is similarly governed by national associations in other countries, each establishing standards and legislation within their own jurisdictions.
By working with SARA Rope Access Global, you can be confident that every project is delivered in full compliance with both local and international rope access standards, ensuring safety, reliability, and peace of mind.
